Developed locally but with global ambition, Smart Ocean will above all be a tool that will make it possible to respond to the
Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations (
SDG11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities,
SDG13 - Climate Action and
SDG14 - Life Below Water).
As a result of the concerted efforts of 4 entities -
Municipality of Peniche,
DOCAPESCA,
Politécnico de Leiria and
BIOCANT, the year 2019 was marked by the constitution of the Association that will manage the future science and technology park and the submission of the project proposal to the CCDR-Center to obtain the necessary financing for the construction of the Smart Ocean building.
The year 2020 will mark the beginning of a new and decisive development phase of the Smart Ocean project. With greater visibility in terms of the actions to be developed, the Managing Association of Smart Ocean intends to establish a set of partnerships with national and international entities in order to create conditions to achieve its major strategic objectives and meet the goals set under SDG14 (Life Below Water).
